    Textile – Chikankari (Urdu: چِکن کاری, Hindi: चिकन की कढ़ाई, चिकनकारी).

Chikankari is a traditional form of embroidery originating from Lucknow, India, known for its delicate and intricate shadow work, traditionally done in white-on-white on fine muslin fabric.

The term naksha can refer to the design or pattern used in this craft. The artwork is a building’s elevation plan that is covered with the shadows of two mango trees that frame the structure.

Material Memories: Patterns in Structure and Fabric

A series of drawings exploring the textures and patterns found in both architecture and fabric construction. Through collected objects, sketches, and visual studies, the work draws connections between the structural rhythms of buildings and the tactile intricacy of textiles.

Blending observation with memory, the drawings form a layered archive of material experiences, revealing how both built and woven surfaces shape personal material memories. Continues to be an ongoing series, further adding more and more layers

    Sarai

    Sarai, 2024

A series of drawings on rest and rootedness.

Sarai explores spaces of rest through a series of drawings that weave together architecture and nature. Inspired by the dual meanings of the word — a resting place for travelers and the sal tree (Shorea robusta) — the works imagine courtyards, pavilions, and open structures where built forms and nature meet, framing each other.

The series reflects on the idea of sanctuary, blurring the lines between shelter and landscape, permanence and transience. Sarai invites viewers to consider how spaces — both human-made and natural — offer refuge, stillness, and a momentary pause in the midst of movement.
