Sarai, 2024

A series of drawings on rest and rootedness.

Sarai explores spaces of rest through a series of drawings that weave together architecture and nature. Inspired by the dual meanings of the word — a resting place for travelers and the sal tree (Shorea robusta) — the works imagine courtyards, pavilions, and open structures where built forms and nature meet, framing each other.

The series reflects on the idea of sanctuary, blurring the lines between shelter and landscape, permanence and transience. Sarai invites viewers to consider how spaces — both human-made and natural — offer refuge, stillness, and a momentary pause in the midst of movement.
